On August 20, 2012, McLaren Hospice will no longer accept new patients at Brian’s House Residential Hospice Bay City or Brian’s House Residential Hospice Davison. As always, McLaren Hospice will continue to provide hospice care to patients and their families in their homes, in hospitals and at long-term care facilities.
"Due to complex changes made in 2009 and 2010 by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), operating a quality inpatient hospice facility is no longer a sustainable endeavor," said Lisa Salmons, vice president of McLaren Hospice. "The delivery of health care is changing, and McLaren is evolving along with it. We appreciate the patients, families, volunteers, donors, community members and organizations that have supported the efforts and philosophy of Brian’s House."
McLaren will continue to maintain the Brian’s House memorial gardens, bricks and installations so lovingly placed by our families.
At McLaren Hospice, only 2 percent of hospice care annually was delivered at Brian’s House, a dedicated hospice inpatient residence. McLaren is evolving with the ever-changing health care landscape and refocusing its resources toward delivering hospice care in ways physicians and patients are seeking it most.
