McLaren–Bay Region is announcing the delivery of first-rate cancer rehab services to survivors, thanks to earning STAR Program® Certification. (STAR stands for “Survivorship, Training, and Rehab.”)

McLaren–Bay Region in Bay City, Michigan announced today that it has earned its STAR Program® Certification from the Massachusetts-based Oncology Rehab Partners, leading experts in the field of survivorship care. McLaren–Bay Region is the first hospital in the State of Michigan to offer comprehensive cancer rehabilitation services to its patients through becoming STAR Program Certified.

STAR Program Certification uniquely qualifies facilities like McLaren–Bay Region to offer premium Oncology Rehabilitation Services to survivors who suffer from debilitating side effects, caused by treatments

To receive its certification, McLaren–Bay Region executed Oncology Rehab Partner’s unparalleled STAR Program Certification, a conventional medicine and evidence-based standardized model of oncology rehabilitation service delivery, successfully implementing the program’s evaluation and treatment protocols and rehabilitation training. These services are covered by health insurance providers and will be offered to patients by a knowledgeable and sensitive medical staff that is specially trained to work with survivors of all forms of cancer.

Specialty caregivers from a pool of disciplines--including physicians, physical and occupational therapists, speech pathologists, registered dietitians, mental health professionals, etc.--will work together with each patient on a personalized rehabilitation plan to increase strength and energy, alleviate pain, and improve daily function and quality of life.

“McLaren Bay Region is proud to be the first hospital in the State of Michigan to provide the STAR certified rehabilitation program,” said Stephanie Leslie, RN, McLaren Bay Region Oncology Program Manager. “STAR is an interdisciplinary approach in which caregivers from different specialties team up to help patients increase strength and energy, alleviate pain, and improve daily function and well-being. Our rehabilitation and oncology services staff have undergone rigorous training to achieve this status, and we are eager to begin providing our cancer patients with this added service."

STAR Program Certification from Oncology Rehab Partners provides hospitals and cancer centers with the tools needed to quickly and effectively implement an exceptional survivorship care plan.

The Open House will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the Center for Rehabilitation at McLaren–Bay Region’s West Campus, 3250 E. Midland Road, Bay City.
