The Heart Center, located at 5115 Pickard in Mt. Pleasant, will provide patients in need of cardiac diagnostic testing with convenient access to care, and will also serve as the new Mt. Pleasant practice location for cardiologists Sudeep Mohan, MD and Abraham Krepostman, MD, FACC. The Center is a partnership between McLaren Central Michigan and McLaren Bay Heart & Vascular in Bay City, together providing the area’s most comprehensive heart care program.
“We know Central Michigan residents want convenient access to quality cardiovascular care close to home,” Dr. Mohan said. “The Heart Center will continue fulfilling that need.”
Dr. Mohan and Dr. Krepostman recently moved to the Heart Center from their former Mt. Pleasant practice location in the Central Michigan Health Park, off High Street. The doctors joined McLaren in June 2011 through McLaren Bay Heart & Vascular, headquartered in Bay City.

McLaren Bay Region has the fastest growing heart and vascular program in central Michigan, with nearly a dozen cardiac physicians leading the region in procedures such as open-heart surgery and Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (also known as angioplasty). Last year, Bay Heart & Vascular surgeons performed 554 open-heart surgeries — significantly more than any other hospital in the region.
This second location for cardiac diagnostic testing services in Mt. Pleasant is an expansion of McLaren Central Michigan’s Heart & Vascular Center and Center for Human Performance department, and is scheduled to open in August.
Available services will include cardiac stress testing, nuclear stress testing, echocardiograms, and event and holter monitoring.
“The Heart Center is a wonderful facility, and I hope our patients enjoy the advantage of specialized care right in our backyards,” Dr. Krepostman said.
With this expansion of access to services, McLaren Central Michigan’s Heart & Vascular Center also welcomed a new manager, Blake Yesmunt, to the staff in early July. Yesmunt will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Heart Center.

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services, currently located on the second floor of the Wellness Central Building, 2600 Three Leaves Drive in Mt. Pleasant, will eventually be relocated to the Heart Center, bringing cardiac diagnostic testing and recovery services under one roof.
New equipment for the Center was financed in part by funds raised from the hospital’s annual golf outing, the Zipper Open, totaling more than $42,000 this year. Items to be purchased include hot lab equipment for nuclear medicine. Nuclear medicine procedures allow medical staff to visualize heart blood flow and function, detect coronary artery disease, and assess damage to the heart following a heart attack.
The Heart Center is located in the former Imperial Oil Company building, 5115 Pickard St. in Mt. Pleasant. Though recently renovated, the building retains many of its unique features, including wall coverings, sky lights, and wood floors. An open house for the public will be announced this Fall.
McLaren Central Michigan’s Center for Human Performance department provides cardiac and respiratory diagnostic services, including cardiac stress testing, nuclear stress testing, echocardiograms, event and holter monitoring, pulmonary function testing, pulse volume recording, and EEGs at the hospital’s Heart & Vascular Center, and at its second location, the Heart Center, on Pickard scheduled to open early Fall.
