McLaren Bay Region Receives MHA Award

McLaren Bay Region has been recognized by the Michigan Hospital Association (MHA) for their participation in The Keystone Center:  Hospital Engagement Network (Safe Care Project).  The award was presented to McLaren Bay Region at the MHA’s Annual Patient Safety and Quality Symposium, held in Detroit, Michigan, on March 11, 2015.

McLaren Bay Region joined the initiative in 2012. The goal of the project was to implement best practices to reduce preventable hospital-acquired conditions. 

McLaren Bay Region’s rate of patient falls with injury decreased by 25% during this 2 year project.  The focus on patient falls included fall assessment, prevention and injury.   Pressure Ulcers prevention focused on pressure reduction implementation and prevention of hospital acquired pressure ulcers.  McLaren Bay Region decreased pressure ulcers by 18%.   Adverse drug events decreased by 12% with the focus on anticoagulation therapy and insulin.  The venous thromboembolism (VTE) focused on risk assessment administration of pharmacologic prophylaxis.  McLaren Bay Region’s medical patient experienced a decrease in VTE by 12%.
