McLaren’s Joint Express Unit Gets a Thumbs Up from Knee Replacement Patient
Like many people in need of a joint replacement, Jim Matus, age 52 of Flushing, was doing the activities he enjoyed less and less because of pain and discomfort. Active in sports most of his life, he especially loved playing hockey and golf. To upgrade his quality of life, Matus decided to undergo a knee replacement procedure through McLaren’s Joint Express program this past February.
“Before my surgery I attended the Joint Express class which was very informative,” Matus said. “The instructors covered everything, I knew exactly what to expect before, during and after surgery.”
Matus was also proactive about walking for exercise prior to his procedure, which was beneficial to his recovery.
“After my knee replacement, I went to physical therapy at the McLaren Therapy Services facility in Flushing,” Matus noted. “My physical therapist, Duane Graves, really challenged me and I am glad that he did. When I went back to see Dr. Telehowski, my surgeon, he was amazed at how quickly I was rebounding. He had told me I might be off of work up to three months, but I was back at it after only a couple of weeks.”
Matus is also back to hitting the links when he can fit golf into his busy schedule. However, because hockey is a contact sport he will have to wait awhile to return to the ice.
“I am feeling fantastic, and I have already recommended Dr. Telehowski and McLaren’s Joint Express to a couple of people,” Matus noted. “I had a great experience. The unit was very well maintained and everything regarding patient care was very organized and structured.” |
