ACR accreditation

Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint and their treatment centers in Lapeer and Owosso have been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting rigorous Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.

These three programs that are operated by McLaren Flint are the only radiation oncology treatment centers with the ACR accreditation in mid-Michigan.

Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint is the only Cancer Center in the area to hold all three accreditations and the first community site to fulfill the Karmanos quality standard for accreditations.

“We knew the standards set forth to meet ACR accreditation were very stringent, yet our team was confident that we were ready for the review,” stated Hesham Gayar, MD, Medical Director of the Radiation Oncology program at McLaren Flint. “We are proud to be recognized for the high quality care we provide to our patients.”
