Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center
McLaren Lapeer Region has officially opened the new McLaren Lapeer Region Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center bringing exceptional wound care closer to you. While most wounds heal through a natural process, not all do. With experience healing all types of wounds, our multi-disciplinary team makes sure you receive the very best care using the latest medical techniques.
Do you need the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center?
Wounds - breaks in the skin caused by disease, injury, poor circulation, diabetes, poor nutrition or other conditions - generally heal through a natural process. But wounds don't always heal the way they should, especially if you have diabetes, heart disease, anemia or peripheral arterial disease. In fact, up to five million Americans suffer from chronic wounds each year. A wound that doesn't heal could put you at risk for infection and more serious complications. Wounds also can cause discomfort, pain and disfigurement and can place limits on activities and quality of life.
How we heal
At McLaren Lapeer Region Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center, we offer patients the very best in wound care from a comfortable, convenient setting that's close to home. You won't find a more dedicated group of healers than our multidisciplinary team, consisting of local physicians who have served the residents of Lapeer County for many years. The team at the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center specializes in treating acute and chronic hard-to-heal wounds, including those that have resisted healing after months and even years of traditional treatment. We follow national guidelines established by clinically based evidence when treating and managing wounds and use proven, advanced techniques to heal many different types of wounds. The result? Most of our patients are completely healed in only a few months.
The types of wounds we treat include:
- Vascular leg ulcers
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Post surgical or traumatic wounds
- Wounds caused by edema (swelling), cancer, radiation treatment, burns, infections and scleroderma (a disease in which scar tissue forms in the skin)
Your first visit
During your initial visit, our staff will evaluate your wound and general health. They will also review your medical history. You may need blood tests and special tests that give us information about blood and oxygen flow in the wound area.
Individualized treatment programs
We tailor your treatment program to meet your individual needs. This program will include regular visits to the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center for debridement and dressing of your wounds and may include specialized grafts, casting or hyperbaric treatments. Your care will be supported by a specially trained wound care nurse who will assist you with dressing your wounds and provide any additional services that are required to promote faster healing.
You're the most important part of the program
Our experienced staff has expertise in all types of wound care and is committed to working closely with you to care for your wounds, monitor your progress and prevent recurrence. We encourage you to ask questions. Our staff is here to provide the answers you need, when you need them.
In addition, we partner with the physicians who refer patients to our Center for care. We will keep your doctor updated on your progress and collaborate on your treatment plan. Once your wound is healed, your primary care doctor will continue to see you for routine medical care.
Many health plans cover wound treatment. Your coverage depends on your specific plan. Our staff can help you understand your plan and arrange payment plans if needed.
