The McLaren Macomb Foundation has a long tradition of providing financial support to McLaren Macomb for numerous hospital programs and projects. Its mission is to raise funds to enhance the hospital’s ability to provide state-of-the-art facilities and advanced clinical care. Some of the areas we support with your donations are:

The Mat Gaberty Heart Center

outreach clinic facility

The Mat Gaberty Heart Center is a state-of-the-art cardiac facility located on the campus of McLaren Macomb hospital. Since its inception nearly 40 years ago, the Mat Gaberty Heart Center has been a leader in cardiac care. The McLaren Advantage: Top Specialists

medical education auditorium

The cancer programs of McLaren Macomb are backed by a powerful network of cancer specialists - an entire team of experts who are part of the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

This network includes top cancer specialists from McLaren hospitals throughout the state - that's a group of more than 400 professionals fighting cancer. The Institute partners with researchers at Michigan State University, providing all its member physicians with access to the most immediate breakthroughs for complicated cancers.

The same treatment protocols that a patient would receive by going to the downtown facility have been implemented at each of the McLaren hospitals. Staying true to the mission of the original hospital, patients are seen and treated in a comfortable setting that's close to home and easy to navigate.

Fighting cancer with a multidisciplinary approach

Treating cancer requires a team effort. At McLaren Macomb, the focus is always on collaboration. Here, world-class specialists work side-by-side with primary care physicians, surgeons, nurses, technologists and other support staff.

Every patient is unique and important to us, so our specialists gather weekly at tumor conferences to discuss each patient's illness and to design the best possible treatment plan. This means our patients benefit from an entire team of experts.

The types of cancer conferences and multidisciplinary teams include:

  • Breast
  • ENT (ear, nose and throat)
  • Gastrointestinal (digestive system)
  • General
  • Genitourinary
  • Gynecologic (women's reproductive system)
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Surgery
  • Thoracic (chest)

At the Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center, patients will also find:

  • Board-certified and noted experts in gynecological tumors, brain and neurological oncology, lung and bone cancer, as well as pioneering radiation oncologists
  • Oncology Certified Nurses with specialized training and education
  • An oncology social worker to provide support and help patients find existing community resources to cope with their illness
  • Board-certified pathologists who carefully examine a tumor to determine the exact type of cancer cells and the advancement (staging) of the cancer
  • Nurse Navigators to help guide patients through each step of treatment and recovery

New Inpatient Rehabilitation Center

The goal for our Inpatient Rehabilitation Center will be to help individuals recover from debilitating injuries or surgery and through an individualized rehab program, lead more independent and fulfilling life. The path to recovery will start right at the hospital where our medical and rehabilitation staff can closely monitor and effect each patient’s progress toward healing.

Patients choose McLaren Macomb because the hospital is known for extraordinary medical experts and care. Our physicians treat a wide variety of medical conditions and until recently have been unable to extend that care to their patients requiring inpatient rehabilitation services.

This new Inpatient Rehabilitation Center is scheduled to be completed in late-2019. Patients choose McLaren Macomb for our expertise in treating both the most complex and most common conditions relating to illness and injury. This new center will allow us to treat them more thoroughly and remain under the care of their attending physician throughout the duration of their initial rehabilitation and discharge.

Emergency and Trauma Center

McLaren Macomb hospital is a center for world-class healing, delivering clinical excellence through the use of leading technology and advanced treatment programs. As Macomb County’s first Verified Level II Trauma Center, our commitment to healing is most evident when patients arrive in our emergency center. Our trauma surgeons are on-site 24/7, ready to care for patients within minutes of arrival. Our emergency physicians are board-certified or board-eligible in emergency medicine and our nurses are specially trained in advanced cardiac life support.

In the case of stroke, our emergency center is the only facility in Macomb County to employ a neuro-interventionalist who is on call round the clock! Seconds can mean the difference between life and death, or paralysis and normal outcomes. At McLaren Macomb our neuro-interventialists provide the critical diagnosis to ensure that expedient treatment is started with the best results for our patients.

Our emergency center is one of the busiest in the region, caring for more than 68,000 patients annually and that volume is growing. To address this increasing patient population, the hospital is preparing for the future.

McLaren Macomb is building a new high-tech Emergency and Trauma Center to care for residents of Macomb County and the surrounding community. The facility will allow our emergency and trauma teams to continue providing world-class clinical care, while expanding capabilities to meet the growing demands of our community. Expected completion of the new 40,000-square-foot, $41 million emergency facility is spring 2020.

New Emergency and Trauma Center Features:

  • Improved layout designed to ensure efficient patient flow and reduced wait times
  • Quicker patient access to modern trauma bays, surgical suites and intensive care unit
  • Expanded treatment area to provide greater patent privacy
  • Separate areas for different patient populations
  • New emergency service drive and separate entrances for ambulance and walk-in traffic
  • Flexible space to accommodate future patient volumes

The McLaren Macomb Medical Outreach Clinic (MOC)

For more than 20 years, our doctor’s office on wheels has been serving patients who can't afford to see a doctor or have no medical insurance. They receive free care in the MOC, a customized van that makes weekly stops in Mount Clemens. The clinic provides more than 1,600 patient visits each year to individuals who otherwise might go without medical treatment. The clinic is staffed by hospital residents, a medical supervisor and medical assistants. The MOC is supported solely through donations.

In the event of a critical diagnosis, MOC patients are referred to a McLaren Macomb specialist who will provide treatment at no cost to the patient.

The Foundation is currently raising money to fund a new state-of-the-art MOC vehicle. Through new partnerships, the MOC is expected to expand services to treat a growing patient population in multiple service areas.
