Leading-edge 3D mammography now available at McLaren Macomb diagnostic office at Shelby Creek

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich.—Patients making an appointment for their regular mammogram at the diagnostic imaging office at McLaren Macomb – Shelby Creek medical office building now have the advantage of choosing 3D tomosynthesis mammography technology, a revolutionary means of detecting breast cancer in its earliest stages, benefitting women with dense breast tissue.

This technology is supplemental to a standard digital mammogram providing greater image clarity, more accurate diagnosis and more peace of mind to patients.

“Women with dense breast tissue don’t always have the advantage of the clearest images after a mammogram, potentially leading to false-positives or – more importantly – hiding tumors,” said Pat Keigher, regional director of cancer services at McLaren Macomb. “Mammograms save lives, and every women deserves to have clear results, which 3D technology can provide those patients.”

3D mammography allows the radiologist to visualize the breast in 1mm slices, making it beneficial to all women as both a screening and diagnostic tool. Dense breast tissue is very common and not abnormal, but can potentially hide tumors within its fibro-glandular structures. Tissue density is determined by the radiologist, as mammograms are read.

McLaren Macomb Diagnostic Imaging at Shelby Creek also offers bone density screening using DEXA technology as well as general radiographic, CT and ultrasound services.

McLaren Macomb – Shelby Creek also houses offices of physical and occupational therapy, family medicine and an office of the McLaren Cardiovascular Institute.

McLaren Macomb Diagnostic Imaging at Shelby Creek is located at 8180 26 Mile Road in Shelby Township, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patients can make an appointment by calling (586) 992-9010.
