The most common reason patients consider bariatric revisional procedures is weight related, either not enough weight was lost following surgery or too much was gained back. The stomach or the connection between the stomach pouch and the small intestine can slowly increase if there is weight gain after initial weight loss surgery. Some bariatric revisional procedures do not require large open incisions and can effectively reestablish the full benefits of their previous weight loss surgery.
Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding is a purely restrictive surgical procedure in which a band is placed around the uppermost part of the stomach.
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is a surgical weight loss procedure where the surgeon creates a small stomach pouch and then constructs a "bypass" for food.
Sleeve Gastrectomy is purely a "restrictive" procedure which limits the amount of solid foods consumed but does not limit the amount of liquid calories consumed. The surgery involves the removal of two-thirds of the stomach to reduce the capacity of the stomach.
The Bariatric Surgery Institute at McLaren Macomb earned the Comprehensive Center accreditation, acknowledging the Institute “meets the needs of its patients by providing multidisciplinary, high-quality and patient-centered care.”
