McLaren Macomb re-verified as Level II Trauma Center

Published on Tuesday, July 05, 2016

McLaren Macomb, the 288-bed acute care hospital in Mount Clemens and Macomb County’s first verified trauma center, has earned re-verification as a Level II Trauma Center from the American College of Surgeons. Requiring regular re-verification, this achievement demonstrates the McLaren Macomb Emergency Department and Trauma Center’s dedication to providing exceptional care to injured patients.

McLaren Macomb’s re-verification—valid until April of 2019—came following a thorough review from the Verification Review Committee, a subcommittee of the Committee on Trauma of the America College of Surgeons.

“It was a major accomplishment for us to be the first in Macomb County to earn Level II verified trauma center status, and we are very proud and excited at the opportunity to continue providing this service to our community,” said Tom Brisse, president and CEO of McLaren Macomb. “We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of ER physicians, nurses, surgeons, support staff and a Trauma Services Department, whose combined efforts made this certification possible.”

To achieve verified trauma level status, medical centers must meet the essential and rigorous criteria that ensure trauma care capabilities and institutional performance set forth by the American College of Surgeons. While the Committee on Trauma does not designate trauma centers, it confirms their dedication and commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients.

In addition to being the first verified trauma center in Macomb County, McLaren Macomb remains the county’s only center with trauma surgeons in-house 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing for patients to be examined immediately upon arrival, besting the national standard of being seen within 15 minutes.
