Meet Carol - Employee of the Month

Carol is employee of the moth

At McLaren Macomb we believe in recognizing outstanding employees who consistently exceed expectations to ensure the highest degree of patient satisfaction. The Employee of the Month award is presented to an employee whose exemplary performance, professionalism and leadership contributes to McLaren Macomb’s mission and core values.

Meet Carol
Environmental Services Housekeeper

Carol grew up in Roseville, where she graduated from Fraser High School in 1974 and married her husband, Gene, the following year. Carol and Gene have been married 40 years and have two daughters. They also had a son who passed at the age of 10 years old. Carol and her family currently live in Clinton Township.

Having been a baker for fifteen years, Carol decided she wanted to pursue a job that enabled her to help others. And that’s what led her to McLaren Macomb.

As a housekeeper in environmental services Carol has spent the last three years serving in the emergency department making sure it is always neat and clean for both staff and patients. She prides herself in doing all she can to create a comfortable environment for all patients who must come to ER. Carol is always quick to assist the nurses and patient care assistants by making sure their environmental needs are tended to in a timely manner. “She shows great respect for those she serves and for all patients as well. She is a hard worker and a great team member,” echo many of her co-workers.

What inspires Carol most about her job in being a part of an organization, and more importantly part of the ER department that daily helps people. Carol describes the passion she feels while performing her job as “being part of something bigger that has the ability to change lives.”  She chose McLaren Macomb because she wanted to join the team that took such great care of her parents. She recalls “Some of the nurses still remember when I came to visit my parents when they were patients years ago. And that has always been most meaningful to me.”

When it comes to turning a bad day around and making it better, Carol is most satisfied when she is able to help others have a better day. Having a positive outlook is what guides Carol and contributes to her good mood regardless of the circumstances.

What Carol likes most about her job is being able to make a difference in patient lives each day. She believes it is important to treat each patient as if they were your mother, father, daughter, son, grandmother or grandfather, and that doing so results in a connection that goes a long way. She further believes that patients want to be treated the same way a family members would treat family. Carol is most grateful to help the ER staff. Her co-workers are just as thankful for all Carol does as she often goes above and beyond expectations, and always maintains a positive disposition.

When not working Carol likes to spend time with her family and go camping.
