Meet Cheryl - Employee of the Month

At McLaren Macomb we believe in recognizing outstanding employees who consistently exceed expectations to ensure the highest degree of patient satisfaction. The Employee of the Month Award is presented to an employee whose exemplary performance, professionalism and leadership contributes to McLaren Macomb’s mission and core values.

Meet Cheryl
Lead Technologist
Breast Center

Cheryl was born at Holy Cross Hospital in Detroit and was raised in Warren, Michigan. She is married, has two daughters and lives in Washington Township. With both daughters having graduated from college, Cheryl is proud that they have entered the workforce in their respective fields of study.

With a passion for helping others, Cheryl began working in healthcare as a 17-year old high school co-op and has worked in a hospital setting since. She has been employed at McLaren Macomb for 17 years and currently works in the Breast Center as a lead technologist. In addition, Cheryl is responsible for work flow, technical troubleshooting, equipment interface and maintaining storage systems. Registered in radiography, mammography, ultrasound and bone density, Cheryl also assists in interventional procedures. In addition, Cheryl serves as the department’s liaison between physicians and patients. She also instructs technologists pursuing their credentials.

Prior to McLaren Macomb, Cheryl trained in mammography and breast ultrasound at the DMC and breast interventional procedures at St. John Hospital and Liggett Breast Center. Cheryl is a member of American Registry of Radiologic Technologists® (ARRT) and International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD).

Cheryl is honored to be chosen Employee of the Month. She is mindful of the special bond she shares with her extraordinary and compassionate co-workers as they go about providing the best breast and health care to patients. Cheryl shares, “We each bring a unique set of skills that enables us to work together in a most fulfilling way.” Cheryl is grateful to be a part of a team she describes as, “a team that always pulls together and does what is best for the patient.” This is what inspires and motivates her, particularly when the unit experiences a chaotic or hectic day or must manage a challenging case.

Cheryl chose McLaren Macomb because she believes there are unique opportunities for education and growth. She is always proud to tell others about McLaren Macomb’s commitment to providing the highest quality of patient care and service while using the most advanced technology and equipment. What Cheryl likes best about her job is knowing she can make a difference in the life of a patient or their family. Cheryl takes pride knowing that for many patients, their satisfaction often leads to their referral of family and friends because they believed they received excellent care.

When asked how she turns a bad day around and make it better, Cheryl professes, “You have to look for the bright side or focus on something you are looking forward to doing. A chat with a patient or a smile from a co-worker can also change the disposition of a bad day.”

For employees beginning a new career, Cheryl would encourage them to always step outside of their comfort zone and take advantage of every opportunity to learn and explore other avenues of their field. Cheryl would further advise them to keep in mind that the wisest people are always learning and testing the limits of what they are meant to achieve.

Cheryl takes an active role serving on several cancer-related committees and projects and is grateful for the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and meet with leading experts within the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Macomb, Ted B. Wahby Cancer Center. She expresses confidence in recommending McLaren Macomb to family, friend and others.
