Meet Jeff - Employee of the Month

Jeffrey is employee of the month
At McLaren Macomb we believe in recognizing outstanding employees who consistently exceed expectations to ensure the highest degree of patient satisfaction. The Employee of the Month award is presented to an employee whose exemplary performance, professionalism and leadership contributes to McLaren Macomb’s mission and core values.

Meet Jeff
Cashier - Food and Nutrition

Born in Mt. Clemens, Jeff and his family have lived in Clinton Township all their lives. He attended grade school in Macomb County, graduating from Chippewa Valley High School before earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Oakland University and Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from Baker College.

Jeff has worked at McLaren Macomb for 13 years, currently as a cashier in Food and Nutritional Services. He is well-known by just about all of the day shift employees for his courteous and helpful countenance. Always attentive to hospital visitors, Jeff can often be seen carrying their trays to their table—a true testament to his ongoing and daily commitment to providing the highest degree of customer service and satisfaction. As he does so with little expectation to be noticed, many have come to admire Jeff for his humbleness when he is extolled with words of praise and recognition.

What inspires and motivates Jeff most about his job is knowing he is creating a positive interaction with staff and guests each and every day.

Jeff chose McLaren Macomb to gain experience and create better opportunities for himself. He has gained many new friends over the years and enjoys the camaraderie he has developed with his co-workers. To turn an unpleasant situation around, Jeff believes you have to a keep a positive attitude and share happiness with others. And as for advice for new hires, he would tell them, “Stay positive, be willing to learn and take advice from those with more experience.”

On occasions when Jeff interacts with patients, he believes it is most important to make them feel important when tending to their food and nutritional needs. He claims, “Bringing a smile helps too. Even though you don’t know a patient’s circumstance it is paramount to make them and their family feel that you care about them and play a role in helping them get better. Word of mouth is critical. If a patient and family have a positive experience, they are more likely to share it with others.”

Jeff attributes his previous job experiences as an assistant gymnastic trainer and grocery store clerk to his desire to focus on a customer service position. His experience as a cheerleader in college has helped him to cheer on others and help them look at the sunny side of things.

When not working, Jeff enjoys being an active member of the St. Louis Church Men’s Club and church choir. To stay fit and healthy, Jeff enjoys taking long walks.
