Meet Raye - Employee of the Month

At McLaren Macomb we believe in recognizing outstanding employees who consistently exceed expectations to ensure the highest degree of patient satisfaction. The Employee of the Month Award is presented to an employee whose exemplary performance, professionalism and leadership contributes to McLaren Macomb’s mission and core values.



Meet Raye

Raynette’s life began in Sanford, Florida where she was born by the same midwife who delivered her mom 20 years earlier. At just four months, Raye and her mom moved to Michigan, the state Raye claims she will forever call home. Though Raye’s life has been rich and fulfilling she has experienced many challenges along the way. As a young single mother circumstances found Raye and her baby boy living in a shelter for a brief period of time. It was there Raye experienced a spiritual awakening. Raye believed, “During that time God brought special people into my life who inspired me to want a better life.” Besides her first son, one of those was her second son who was born here at Mount Clemens General in 1991.

As a single parent, Raye raised her two sons Brandon, and Cordaro in Clinton Township, where she lived for 16 years. She believes that being involved in her church influenced her family’s structure, values, morals and standards. As a member of the Perfecting Church for the past 10 years, Raye has been inspired and guided by her pastor, Bishop Marvin L. Winans. She credits him with instilling in her the importance of being a purposeful servant committed to high standards in all aspects of life. Raye would like people to know, “Everything I have experienced has molded me into the woman I am. I hope to continue to grow in grace and inspire my sweet 3-year-old granddaughter, Kahmya Grace, through positive example.”

Raye has always considered McLaren Macomb as the hospital of choice for her family. When presented with the opportunity to join McLaren Macomb in November 2001, Raye recalled the great care her family received. She decided it was a calling for her to use her compassion and empathy to make a difference in the lives of patients in need. As she proudly celebrates her 15 year anniversary, Raye is grateful for the opportunity she has had to serve the McLaren Macomb family including her fellow co-workers, doctors and patients. Doing so is what she likes most about her job. She also holds dear the many relationships she continuously builds with patients and their families. Raye’s experience at McLaren Macomb includes patient care associate, OR pod aide and inventory assistant. Experience outside of McLaren Macomb includes probate specialty care and Uber.

As a patient experience representative, Raye’s role is to ensure patients receive the highest level of care and service. One of her primary responsibilities is to respond bedside to patients and their families when they have concerns about patient care. Raye can always be relied upon to respond with utmost empathy, care and compassion. She can also be relied upon to communicate with physicians, clinical managers, nursing staff and others throughout the hospital to effectively resolve issues in a timely manner. During her daily rounding, Raye reassures staff that she is always available to assist with patient concerns throughout their time of care. One of Raye’s favorite assignments is conducting weekly employee recognition events to acknowledge their exemplary service. Raye recently implemented a volunteer group to support the emergency department in their quest to achieve the highest level of patient satisfaction.

When she encounters a bad day, Raye relies on her spiritual reflection to seek a positive outcome. What inspires and motivates Raye most about her job is to be a part of a great team of employees who share a common passion to help make a difference in the lives of patients of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Raye believes that patient satisfaction is the result of the collective actions of a truly gifted and dedicated health care team.

As for new employees, Raye offers, “Be professional, maintain a positive disposition and be open to the suggestions of those with more experience. Be trustworthy and reliable. Praise others."

When asked “How would you define patient satisfaction?” Raye quickly responds, “That is simple, patient satisfaction is making sure that each and every patient is satisfied from the time they enter our hospital or outside clinics until they are discharged or leave the building.”

Raye’s enthusiasm goes beyond the scope of her assigned job responsibilities. She is currently co-chair of the employee activities committee and member of the Workplace of Choice Committee, a Studer Group initiative. Outside interests include being active with her church, family and friends. Raye also enjoys baking with her new Kitchen Aid mixer, reading, listening to contemporary and gospel music and is known as the “Queen of Scrabble”. She does admit that she also imagines living in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where she vacations with her family.
