New Support Group for Breastfeeding Mothers

Published on Friday, February 24, 2017

circle of babiesMcLaren Northern Michigan and the Health Department of Northwest Michigan invite new and experienced moms to the Baby Bistro support group.

Over 80 percent of mothers breastfeed their infants from birth, with that number decreasing to only 51 percent at six months. According the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), lower rates of continued breastfeeding suggest that many mothers may lack ongoing breastfeeding support from family, friends, employers, and the community. Baby Bistro was created to help mothers achieve their breastfeeding goals.

A full “menu” of topics will be available at the Baby Bistro. Moms can pick from sharing their breastfeeding stories, learning helpful breastfeeding tips, gaining advice from a certified lactation counselor, and participating in the baby weigh-in.

“McLaren Northern Michigan and the Health Department of Northwest Michigan is dedicated to supporting breastfeeding mothers to improve the health and well-being of infants and families,” stated Judy Wojcik, Childbirth Educator and Breastfeeding Counselor at McLaren Northern Michigan.

The Baby Bistro group meets the first and third Tuesday of every month from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at the John and Marnie Demmer Wellness Pavilion and Dialysis Center located at 820 Arlington Avenue in Petoskey.
