ENT: Ear Nose and Throat

Otolaryngology, more commonly called ear, nose, and throat, includes a variety of procedures. The physicians on staff are educated in treating very young infants to the elderly for diseases affecting the ears, nose and throat. The procedures can be done on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

What is an Otolaryngologist?

An Otolaryngologist is a physician specially trained and certified in the surgery and treatment of diseases/disorders affecting the ears, nose, and throat. They are often called ENT doctors. ENT physicians are unique because they are trained in both areas of surgery and medicine. When ears, nose, throat, or head/neck surgery is required, otolaryngologists do not need to refer their patients to other doctors, and can therefore offer individualized care.

Common treatable problems include:

  • Recurring ear infections
  • Tinnitus (ringing or noise in the ear)
  • Sinus infections - including chronic sinusitis
  • Tonsillitis
  • Abnormal growths in the neck or on the vocal chords
  • Swallowing disorders and dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing)
  • Chronic sore throat
  • Meniere's Disease - a disease of the inner ear

Common procedures performed include:

  • Tonsillectomy
  • Ear Tubes
  • Sinus surgery
  • Throat surgery
  • Head/Neck surgery
