While you are in the Hospital, your family and friends are welcome to visit you. A physician or nurse may ask you to limit the number of visitors you have because it takes energy to entertain, and your health or that of your roommate's must be protected. Children under the age of 13 must have permission from your nurse before visiting, unless otherwise specified.
Visiting hours for patients are from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., except for ICU and OB which allow 24/7 visitation as determined by the Nursing Team Leader. If it is necessary for a visitor to stay after visiting hours due to the condition of the patient, up to two visitor's wrist bands, specifying the nursing unit and date, will be issued.
Electronic Device Use
As guests at McLaren Northern Michigan, we expect that all patients, visitors, and staff are treated in a respectful manner, while preserving the integrity and privacy of all patients. For this reason, the use of ALL cameras and recording devices, including but not limited to, cell phone recording functions, is prohibited in patient care settings.
Additionally, the use of mobile and electronic devices should be limited in patient care settings, and is prohibited in certain patient care settings if the use will interfere with medical equipment use. These areas will be marked accordingly to ensure patient safety and compliance.
Intensive Care Unit
Patients in ICU can receive visitors from the immediate family only but no children under the age of 12. We limit visitors to two at a time for 10 minutes on the half-hour. The unit is closed to visiting from 7 - 8:30 a.m. and 7 - 8:30 p.m., so nurses may give report on their patients. This also ensures patient confidentiality is maintained. Exceptions may occasionally be made in collaboration with the individual nurse caring for the patient and the family as patient condition dictates.
Visiting hours are from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m., with a "quiet time" from 10 p.m. - 4 a.m. Patients are limited to two visitors at any given time with children under the age of 10 restricted to 10 minutes.
Medical - Surgical Unit
Visitation should be limited to two people at a time. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Arrangements for visiting prior to 10 a.m. or after 8:30 p.m. are made in partnership with staff and family to meet the needs of the patient and family. The arrangements must be made with staff to assure a safe and secure environment for our patients.
Women & Children Care Center
The Women & Children Care Center encourages parent/family participation in the patient's care. Overnight stays or rooming-in arrangements are made in partnership with staff and family to meet the needs of the patient and family with consideration to availability of space on the unit. General visitation guidelines are also made in partnership with the patient/family to achieve a positive patient outcome.
