Published on Tuesday, May 16, 2017
PONTIAC, Mich.—McLaren Oakland, the 328-bed Pontiac-based hospital, has earned the 2017 Governor’s Award for Excellence by MPRO, a nonprofit organization and national leader in healthcare quality improvement and medical review. Michigan’s preeminent healthcare quality improvement organization, MPRO’s Governor’s Award of Excellence recognizes healthcare facilities for their dedication and success in improving quality and patient safety.

To earn the Governor’s Award of Excellence, healthcare facilities must achieve, maintain and continually improve in specific quality and patient metrics.

“Patients in our facility deserve the highest quality care in the safest environment,” said Bart Buxton, president and CEO of McLaren Oakland. “That’s our goal for every patient, every day. This recognition is a tribute to our entire staff who share that goal and work tirelessly to ensure it is achieved.”

The Governor’s Award of Excellence was first awarded in 2003, with the 2017 award based on work from 2015-2016 in various areas, which include improved heart health, lowering risk of infections in hospitals, improving diabetes management and more.

“We are fortunate to be able to partner with McLaren Oakland and all the other dedicated organizations across the state of Michigan,” Leland Babitch, MD, MBA, MPRO president and CEO, said in a statement. “To be able to recognize these outstanding accomplishments with the Governor’s office highlights the importance of improving healthcare quality in our state.”

This year’s list of Governor’s Award for Excellence include hospitals, physician practices, nursing homes, ambulatory surgery centers, home health agencies and others.
