2017 McLaren Port Huron Scholarships Awarded - 2018 Scholarship applications will be available in March 2018

Continuous learning strengthens professional skills and builds career potential. Investment in professional development also attracts and retains the best and brightest employees. It’s a win-win for McLaren Port Huron and its workforce.

McLaren Port Huron and its healthcare partners have awarded $19,000 in scholarships to 14 students pursuing degrees in professions represented within the hospital and community. Since 1988, 436 recipients have received $477,250 through the scholarship program. The scholarships are funded by the McLaren Port Huron Auxiliary, McLaren Port Huron Employees That Care Club, McLaren Port Huron Foundation and McLaren Port Huron Employees.

The 2017 scholarships and recipients are:

  • McLaren Port Huron Auxiliary Scholarships: Kristie Harms of Riley is a RN in Selective Care; Ashley Peterson of Port Huron is a RN in Selective Care; James Carson of Peck; Erin Tait of Clyde; and Kaitlin Johnson of North Street. Patricia St. Louis, Employee Health Coordinator, received the Auxiliary Seminar/Conference award for 2017.
  • McLaren Port Huron Employees That Care Club (ETC) Scholarships: Jean Boland of Port Huron is a RN in Selective Care; Ellie Kercher of Port Huron is a nurse aide in the Emergency Department; Danielle Mackey of Kenockee is a nurse aide in the Pre/Post Op unit; and Jessica Duckworth of Port Huron is a Unit Secretary in the Observation Unit.
  • McLaren Port Huron Employee Scholarship: Erin Owens of China Township is a Quality Review Analyst and Rebecca Stark of Port Huron is a RN in Selective Care.
  • Theron and Eleanor Godbold Scholarship: Tina Carty of Marysville is a RN for Family Birth Place and Sharon Kortas of East China is Infection Control Practitioner.
  • Shirley Jardine Carter Memorial Physical Therapy Scholarship: two scholarships totaling $6,000 were awardedto:

    Addie Ingles, St. Clair High School graduate, is Attending Grand Valley State University and will graduate as a Physical Therapist in August 2018. Addie recently completed a service-learning trip to Guatemala.

    Jenna Page, Port Huron High School graduate, is attending Wayne State University and will graduate as a Physical Therapist in December 2018. Jenna is active in the WSU Go-Girls mentor program and DMC RIM’s stroke camp.

Shirley Jardine Carter Memorial Scholarship for Physical Therapy

Shirley was an employee of the Hospital who was tragically killed in an auto accident while working in 1990. Her family and friends founded this scholarship in her memory. Since its inception, 103 scholarships totaling $127,750 have been awarded for students enrolled in or accepted into an accredited physical therapist or physical therapist assistant program in Shirley’s memory.
