Published on Friday, September 08, 2017
Port Huron, MI – McLaren Port Huron, in collaboration with the Area Agency on Aging 1- B and the Alzheimer’s Association, will host Creating Confident Caregivers®, a program designed for family members caring for a loved one with dementia at home. This six-week series takes place Thursdays, October 6 – November 9, 10 a.m. – noon, at the McLaren Port Huron Jefferson Building, located at 1320 Washington Avenue, Port Huron.

Creating Confident Caregivers® uses the University of Minnesota’s Savvy Caregiver Program, which provides tools and information to manage stress and increase effective caregiving skills. Participants will learn strategies to reduce stress, improve confidence, create a positive environment, and plan daily activities for their loved one based on their strengths.

Two-hour sessions are held once a week on Thursdays for six weeks, and are led by staff trained in the program. Respite care for your family member will be provided at no cost while caregivers attend this program. Respite care will be provided by Star Path Adult Day Services in Port Huron.
There is no cost to attend this program, but registration is required. To register or for more information, call the Area Agency on Aging 1-B at (800) 852-7995. Respite care arrangements will be made at the time of registration.
