McLaren Central Michigan awarded Acute Stroke Ready Certification from The Joint Commission

McLaren Central Michigan has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Acute Stroke Ready Certification.

McLaren Central Michigan underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on March 15, 2022. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including program management and the delivering and facilitating of clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“Acute Stroke Ready Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend McLaren Central Michigan for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for stroke patients.”

“We congratulate McLaren Central Michigan for this outstanding achievement,” says Nancy Brown, chief executive officer, the American Stroke Association. “This certification reflects its commitment to providing the highest quality of care for stroke patients.”

McLaren Central Michigan is fortunate to have a collaborative relationship with local EMS agencies that are highly trained at recognizing stroke symptoms and pre-notifying the emergency department of their arrival so that the stroke team is ready to accept the patient upon arrival and go directly to CT imaging to expedite their stroke care.

McLaren Central Michigan is part of the McLaren Stroke Network which provides tele-stroke consultative services by a neuro interventionalist. They are able to review the patient's diagnostic images, assess the patient and consult with the healthcare team to identify if the patient would require a higher level of care or if they are best managed locally at McLaren Central Michigan.
