This fall, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Central Michigan, Morey Cancer Center, celebrates 10 years of providing comprehensive cancer care including radiation and medical oncology services in Mt. Pleasant. During that time, nearly 6,000 patients have received care at the Center.

Our 10 Year Anniversary Celebration is Friday, September 11 from 2 - 4 pm at 1221 South Drive in Mt. Pleasant. The Strength Through Art Exhibit, honoring the journey individuals face when confronted with a cancer diagnosis, will be unveiled. A public exhibit of all entries will also be on display at Art Reach of Mid Michigan, 111 E. Broadway in downtown Mt. Pleasant, from September 21 through October 9.

Over the past decade, the Center has continued to evolve in order to deliver the best cancer treatments and programs to central Michigan residents.

In 2014, Karmanos became part of McLaren Health Care, bringing cancer patients in central Michigan better access to advanced cancer care close to home. This signifies our commitment to delivering the most advanced treatments and therapies. Our patients and their loved ones will have an extra level of comfort and peace of mind, knowing they can receive the best care locally.

Exceeding Standards of Care in Mt. Pleasant

Clinical Trials - Approximately 24 percent of our patients are enrolled in a clinical trial. According to the American Cancer Society, thousands of individuals benefit from participating in clinical trials each year and millions of others benefit from the knowledge gained by those participating in these programs.

Oncology Certified Nursing Staff - The Center’s nurses are certified through the American Board of Nursing Specialties maintaining an Oncology Certification (OCN). This specialized certification ensures the nurses are focused exclusively on providing oncology care, are highly knowledgeable on current trends and are experienced with helping individuals and their families through all stages of cancer treatment.

Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consortium - Breast or lung cancer patients can find comfort in knowing that Karmanos participates in the Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consortium (MROQC). This is a collaborative network of specialists across the state partnering together to impact the radiation treatment experience for patients with breast or lung cancer with the goal of minimizing radiation treatment side effects.
