McLaren Brings Expanded Full-Service Emergency Center to Clarkston

Published on Friday, February 12, 2016

McLaren Oakland announced today the scheduled opening of the New McLaren Clarkston Emergency Center. Located on the campus of the McLaren Health Care Village, on Bow Pointe Drive  near Sashabaw Road and I-75, this freestanding 24/7 emergency center will be capable of treating high-acuity patients, including those arriving via ambulance. The center is scheduled to open on February 15, 2016 at 6:00 a.m.

The new emergency center will be located at the site of a former urgent care, which closed for renovations in November 2015. Upon completion, the newly renovated emergency center will feature 20 patient treatment areas, including 14 private exam rooms, a cardiac monitoring room and a clinical isolation room. While much of the renovation focuses on updating the facility to meet emergency center code requirements, additional improvements include new flooring throughout the space and a new exterior canopy for ambulance traffic. All improvements are designed to enhance the patient experience.

The new site represents a change of location for the current McLaren Clarkston Health Center emergency department, located near Dixie Highway and White Lake Road. The new site on Bow Pointe will be larger by nearly 10,000 square feet, enabling the emergency team to care for significantly more patients than can be accomodated in the current location. The current center will remain open to patients until the new emergency center opens.

“We’re excited to bring this level of care and service to the Clarkston community,” said Chad Grant, president and chief executive officer of McLaren Oakland, which will own and operate the emergency center. “Our focus will be on delivering excellent service and high quality emergency care, provided by the same experienced emergency physicians that staff some of the region's busiest trauma centers.”

The new emergency center will operate 24 hours a day, staffed with board-certified or board-eligible emergency physicians, registered nurses trained in emergency medicine and paramedics onsite.  In addition to the employees on staff at the current emergency department location, 46 new team members have been hired for the new emergency center, many of whom worked at the former urgent care center.

“We are increasing staffing to ensure we are prepared to care for any patient that arrives, day or night,” added Grant. “We have added 16 nurses and seven clerks to our team, several of whom have lived or worked in the local community for years. We think that’s important.”

The new McLaren Clarkston Emergency Center will be the most recent addition to McLaren’s clinical services on its Clarkston Health Care Village campus, which includes a physical therapy and sports medicine center, a breast center, sleep center, wound care center, laboratory draw station, surgery center, bariatric surgery center and a comprehensive cancer center. McLaren anticipates continued expansion in northern Oakland County as part of its community commitment and overall growth strategy.
