    To protect the health of our communities and as a safety precaution to prevent the risk of spreading COVID-19, Karmanos Cancer Institute is continuing visitor restrictions.

    Weapons Policy

    Patients, including persons who are active or retired police authority, are not allowed to carry a weapon on the premises. If a patient arrives with a weapon, they must check it in with DMC Police Authority for the duration of their visit or admission.

    Active and retired police authority who are on campus as visitors, performing job functions etc., are permitted to carry their weapon, again, unless they are a patient. This is due to the physical exam process, treatment, intervention, medications and such.

    It is preferred that active and retired officers notify DMC Police Authority that they are on the premises with a weapon.

    Delivery Policy

    For the protection of our patients, we kindly ask you to not send flowers, food or other items that must be delivered. 

    Parking Options

    Valet Service is available for Karmanos patients beginning April 5, 2022.

    Valet parking:

    • Karmanos Cancer Center - Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. For valet parking after 7 p.m. and on the weekends, please go to the Harper University Hospital entrance. Note: Keys for vehicles left in the care of valet parking after hours will be left with the DMC Security Police Authority in the Karmanos Lobby.
      • Karmanos patients and visitors, with validation, can valet park for $5 per vehicle, $3 with a handicap placard at 4100 John R. Without validation, valet is $11. Karmanos patients and visitors can receive validation at each check-in area or nurse's station. Valet is cash only. Please note that Gershenson Radiation Oncology Center parking cards are not valid in the valet lot.

    • Harper University Hospital - Monday-Friday from 5 a.m. – 10 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. After hours, please see security staff in Harper University Hospital’s main lobby. DMC Valet is $11/$5 handicap. Karmanos valet stickers are not valid at this entrance.

    Self-park:

    We are happy to offer free self-parking to Karmanos patients and their visitors. To obtain free parking, please bring your parking stub with you to your appointment. If you are checking in for an appointment at Karmanos, the Patient Access Representative will provide you with a sticker for your parking stub. If you are visiting a Karmanos patient, the Oncology Care Associate at the nursing station desk can provide you with a sticker for your parking stub. This applies only to self-parking in the North or Center Deck. When exiting the deck, scan the barcode at the machine. Do not insert the ticket. If you encounter an issue, please press the button for assistance.

    • North Deck - John R and Canfield, 24 hours/7 days a week
    • Center Deck - John R and Alexandrine, 24 hours/7 days a week.

    Parking for patients receiving radiation treatment:

    Gershenson Radiation Oncology Center parking is a gated lot that can only be entered by using the parking card received at the first visit. The entrance is located on Canfield Ave. and Brush St. in Detroit.

    Karmanos Cancer Center offers the following amenities for our guests.

    Please note: Karmanos and the Detroit Medical Center are non-smoking campuses, which means there is no smoking on hospital property, or parking decks. 

    Food & Beverage

    Karmanos offers complimentary coffee, tea, water and hot chocolate for patients and visitors in the Wertz Clinic and Supportive Services office located within the cancer center.

    In addition, Karmanos offers these eateries on our hospital’s campus:

    • DMC Midtown Marketplace - located on the first floor of Harper University Hospital. Eateries include Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, Kendra Sushi Bar, Kabob Grill, Papa Joe’s Gourmet Foods, Happy's Pizza, Kit Chen Thai and Nia's Greek Street Food.
    • Chick-fil-A - located on the first floor near the main entrance of Hutzel Hospital. Hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, closed. 
    • Great Lakes Coffee Beanery - located in the Hutzel lobby. Hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    Internet Access

    Karmanos Cancer Center offers free Wi-Fi. You can connect to the Wi-Fi on your laptop, tablet or phone. Please follow the instructions below:

    1. Click on the Network Connection indicator on the Start bar (next to the computer clock). Another way would be to go to Start -> Settings ->Network Connections.
    2. When the Connection window is opened it should list all available wireless signals.You must click on “KCCGUEST” and click “connect.”
    3. Once the connection process is complete, you must open your Internet browser, which will prompt an acceptable use policy. You must “Accept” this policy. Some Internet browsers will first bring up a white screen saying that the security certificate is out of date. Click on the ‘Accept’ button to accept the usage agreement.
    4. When a screen comes up saying the Karmanos terms have been accepted, you are connected to the wireless network.

    You may have to accept the agreement more than once for it to confirm and allow a connection.
