Lansing, Mich. — Nearly 400 donors and friends of the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation experienced a fun-filled, cruise ship atmosphere on Saturday when they attended the Annual Gala at the Country Club of Lansing.

With a theme of All Aboard the S.S. McLaren – Navigating the Future, the event received generous support from sponsors such as CallisonRTKL Inc., American Physician Partners - DeGarA PLLC, IBEW Local 665/National Electrical Contractors, PNC Bank, Dr. Michael and Mrs. Jane Hourani,

The Wendorf Family, MSU College of Human Medicine, Capital Area Anesthesia, and MSU Federal Credit Union, while raising more than $240,000 in cash and in-kind donations. The proceeds will benefit the Emergency Department, Oncology Services, and areas of greatest need at McLaren Greater Lansing.

Sheri Jones, news anchor for WLNS-TV6, served as Honorary Chair for the Annual Gala. Lyn Donaldson Zynda, president of ZHV Properties, LLC, was the chair of the 13th annual event.

“It is gratifying to be part of a community that is so generous and supportive,” said Scott S. Stewart, chair of the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation’s board of trustees. “The Gala sold out more than two weeks ago, and it was wonderful to see so many local leaders here to celebrate another successful year at McLaren Greater Lansing.”

Dr. Chintalapudi Kumar received the inaugural Janet M. Wendorf Outstanding Caregiver Award at the event. He was recognized for his commitment to providing high quality and compassionate care to patients at McLaren Greater Lansing.

Tom Mee, RN, BSN, MBA, president and CEO of McLaren Greater Lansing, remembers Jan Wendorf as a true friend of the hospital, and someone whose generosity, kindness, and warmth exemplify the values that are critical to the extraordinary care that individuals such as Dr. Kumar provide to patients at McLaren Greater Lansing.

“He is known for treating his patients as if they are part of his own family,” Mee said of Dr. Kumar. “And he doesn’t just take care of his patients. He takes care of their family members as well. He understands truly compassionate care involves treating the patient and the patient’s family together.”
