McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation to Partner with Greater Lansing Food Bank to Combat Hunger During School Summer Break

LANSING, Mich. - McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation, in partnership with the Greater Lansing Food Bank, will hold its second annual Cereal for Summer drive from June 5 - 14.

Cereal for Summer was created to help fill a food-shortage void in the Greater Lansing community that occurs during the summer when many children who are out of school no longer receive breakfast or lunch provided by federal programs.

“We definitely see an increase in food demand during the summer months when children lose access to school meals,” said Joe Wald, executive director of the Greater Lansing Food Bank. “The cereal boxes collected during Cereal for Summer will help our community’s children to have full bowls every morning.”

Boxes of cereal can be donated at designated locations and times at McLaren Greater Lansing, McLaren Orthopedic Hospital, and Mid-Michigan Physicians.

More than a thousand pounds of cereal was collected during the inaugural drive last year.

“We were very grateful for all our generous and compassionate partners who gave last year to help us combat hunger in our community,” said Tom Mee, RN, BSN, MBA, president and CEO of McLaren Greater Lansing. “We are hopeful we can help feed even more children this year.”
