Category descriptions

  • Clinical Practice: This award is given to an LPN, RN or APRN who provides outstanding patient care, shows superior nursing clinical skills and exhibits extraordinary compassion. Exceptional communication skills enhance their contribution to the health needs of the community while advancing the profession.
  • Nursing Education: The search for knowledge holds the promise for the future. Nurse educators nominated for this award demonstrate the ability to inspire nursing students and practicing nurses, creatively stimulating students and colleagues to pursue knowledge and skills needed to practice nursing compassionately and effectively.
  • Long-term/Hospice Care: The passing of a loved one is a difficult time for us all. This award is given to a nurse who has provided comfort for patients and relatives alike during these difficult times, offering care for both the body and spirits of those around them.
  • Rising Stars: This award serves to recognize those nurses who are new to the profession or current nursing students. This individual would exemplify outstanding and caring leadership and professionalism as a beginning practitioner or as part of a nursing education program (a student in good standing who maintains at least a 3.0 GPA).
  • Community Service: Recognition of a nurse who takes a leadership role in a community or organization focused on community service shows the wide reach nurses can have. This award goes to one who has made significant professional or voluntary contributions that have improved the profession or patient care in the community.
  • In Service to our Country: Nurses often serve different roles and in different ways. We recognize those nurses in our community who also serve our country. This award recognizes a deserving nurse who has served time in the Armed Forces (active or former) as well as those who actively work with our Nation’s veterans.
  • Lifetime Achievement: For some, nursing is a lifelong calling. This category recognizes those who've dedicated 25 years or more to nursing – whether clinical, in education or moving around through various roles.
