1.       Orientation for first year

  • This program is provided to first year residents in July and will be coordinated between MSUCOM/SCS and MGL dependent on scheduling circumstances.

2.       Basic Science Program (MSUCOM/SCS)                

  • Mandatory for second-year residents (alternate Thursdays).
  • Full day session.

3.       Educational day (MSUCOM/SCS)                

  • Third Thursday monthly.
  • 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (scheduled time may vary from time to time)
  • All residents are required to be in attendance (unless on vacation or on outside rotation whereby the resident may be excused by prior arrangement).
  • Educational days occur during August, September, October, November, December, February, March, April, May, and June.
  • It is expected that residents will resume hospital responsibilities as needed on that particular day.  The administrative chief resident and the program director will prearrange the specific arrangements for afternoon and night coverage that day.

4.       Contract/Managed Care Course.

  • Two days.
  • Fourth year residents. 

5.       Anatomy Course.

  • Two days.
  • Second year resident.

6.       Colposcopy Course

  • Two days
  • Second year resident

7.       Ultrasound Course.

  • Three day training course.
  • First year residents.

8.       Board Review Course.

  • Five day course.
  • Fourth year residents.
  • Spring of fourth year.

9.       Evidence Based Medicine Course.

10.     Weekly didactics -- every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. Consists of lectures and presentations from teaching faculty and guest speakers, student presentations, discussions of assigned reading assignments, residency business. 

11.     PGY-2 residents are also required to attend the ACOOG Mid-year conference which is held in the fall (usually October).
