Celebrating Physicians on Doctor’s Day

Published on Tuesday, April 17, 2018

Lapeer County – Doctors’ Day is celebrated nationwide on Friday, March 30 and McLaren Lapeer Region is proud of the care and attention its physicians provide daily to the Lapeer community. McLaren cannot express enough gratitude.

"Doctors' Day is a way that we can show our appreciation for all the hard work that our physicians do, said Gary Salem, DO, Chief Medical Officer at McLaren Lapeer Region. “We have outstanding physicians who treat our patients like family and we are pleased to honor them.”

Doctors’ Day recognizes these individuals who positively impact thousands of people every day—assisting in childbirth, helping the sick get well and offering helpful information for families seeking answers. These dedicated individuals spend their days and nights relieving pain and fear, treating patients with expertise and compassion, and providing the ultimate service—saving lives.

The history of this special day dates to the 1800's when American Dr. Crawford W. Long became the first physician to use anesthesia in an operation performed on March 30, 1842. To commemorate this unprecedented event, March 30 was declared as National Doctors Day in the United States.
