Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System: Action Required!

Recently the State of Michigan department of Health and Human services issued a bulletin to comply with the Federal 21st Century Cures Act.  In short, it requires that any physician (employed, contracted, or independent) treating patients in any Michigan facility (referring, ordering, admitting, attending , consulting etc.) go through a screening and enrollment process with Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System (CHAMPS).  This is required even if you are not billing Medicaid for the services rendered.  Each physician must have an "Active" status in the CHAMPS system.  If a physician is listed as "Inactive" all facility claims billed will be denied payment by the Medicaid system until the issue is corrected.

While initially this requirement was only for traditional Medicaid patients , the Federal Government has required it to be rolled out nationally in all states and with Medicaid HMO plans as well.  Please reach out to your office manager and/or billing company ASAP to ensure you and all members of your group are "Active" in the CHAMPS system.
