A 19-year veteran of McLaren Oakland, Hand was awarded the prestigious nursing award for her commitment to championing creative strategies and management, enabling efficient operations, generating enthusiasm and fostering teamwork.

Now in its 29th year and sponsored by the Oakland University School of Nursing, the Nightingale Awards for Nursing Excellence, through nominations by their superiors, colleagues and physicians, recognize outstanding nurses and their achievements in the profession.

"Kim is highly-respected by her fellow nurses, physicians and all staff and is more than deserving of this honor," said Calandra Anderson, chief nursing officer at McLaren Oakland. "She is a very effective leader, encouraging her staff and leading by example and an excellent care provider by ensuring all patient and family needs are met."

Hand was instrumental in decreasing the amount of time it takes for McLaren Oakland and McLaren Clarkston emergency patients to be placed in a permanent bed, reducing the number of catheter-associated infections and implementing new processes that lowered the need for patient restraints.
