“Flu season is not over yet” – WGA: March 6, 2020

common illnesses

Each week, we ask our emergency docs, “What’s going around?”

This week, Dr. James Larkin, an emergency physician at McLaren Macomb, reports:

Flu

Many cases of influenza continue to be treated, specifically the A strain of the flu, with symptoms of high fever, muscles aches, persistent cough and congestion.

Upper respiratory infection

While not testing positive for flu, many patients arrive with symptoms of cough, congestion and runny noses associated with upper respiratory infections.

Ortho injuries

The minor orthopedic injuries sustained during slip-and-fall accidents have significantly tapered off with the rise out of freezing temperatures.
