Meet Dr. Duren - Chief of Staff - Elect

How long have you worked at McLaren Greater Lansing?

I have worked at McLaren for 24 years.

What is your favorite part about being an anesthesiologist?

I love being able to be part of a team that has the opportunity to take what in many instances is a high anxiety time and work together to make it a more comforting time.

What is something you are proud to have been a part of?

I am very proud to be surrounded by individuals who make it a joy to come to work.

Why did you choose to become a physician?

My father was a hospital administrator and held himself to high standards. Having listened to the dinner table stories, I was moved to find ways to seek out challenges to make myself and others better. He was my role model then and continues to be now.

What is your motivation for becoming a physician leader and what are some of your goals as the Chief of Staff Elect?

I have a glass half full approach to life and wish to rally others to share in that. I have had the wonderful opportunity to watch Dr. Mesko and Dr. Elmassian, two very passionate physician leaders, and hope to be able to lead as they have. A goal of mine is to work hard to leave a positive imprint for the hospital within the community.

What do you enjoy most about being in a leadership role?

What I like most about being a physician leader is when your hard work and passion translates into better outcomes. Value based health care is upon us and to that end we must all look to find ways to increase outcomes while decreasing expenses.
