McLaren Health Care (MHC) and Grand Valley State University (GVSU) are transforming the nursing workforce by targeting the need to increase nursing educational opportunities for nurses from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented minorities.

This program provides financial support for qualified students from MHC, who gain admission into select GVSU Kirkhof College of Nursing (KCON) programs. Graduates will be able to deliver culturally aligned care and leadership in providing care for medically underserved areas and populations.

MHC nurses will be selected for the following degree programs. Each program is 5 semesters long* with applied learning experiences in the MHC system and will begin in either Spring/Summer or Fall of 2023 depending on each individual student’s progression plan.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) to BSN program (online format): Enrollment capacity: 19 registered nurses
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) - (online format): Enrollment capacity: 13 BSN prepared nurses

Admitted MHC nurses will be individually responsible for approximately 20% of their total tuition/program fees*. A nominal stipend toward supplies/books will also be provided. For RN-BSN Applicants: Please schedule an appointment with the HRSA NWD Student Services Advisor to determine the number of credits you will need to earn your BSN degree and inform your estimated out-of-pocket cost.
