Advanced Practice Nurse - Medical/Surgical Support

Position Summary:

Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of the Hospital.  Defined by the A.N.A. advanced practice standards. Provides direct and indirect PI care to manage the health care needs of an adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient population.  Makes clinical judgments using independent and interdependent decision-making skills.  Utilizes knowledge, clinical expertise, diagnostic reasoning, advanced therapeutic interventions and collaboration to provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing practice across the healthcare continuum.  Using education and research evidence, functions as a physician extender, resource, and clinical consultant, for patients, families, communities, nursing, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Performs those activities for which they are credentialed through the Allied Health Professional Review Committee of the Medical Staff.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supports the mission and vision of McLaren Port Huron through behaviors that reflect and integrate our values, as evidenced by observation, peer and customer feedback. 
  2. Facilitates patient care through the continuum as evidenced by peer review, documentation in the medical records, and observation. 
  3. Contributes to the education of staff, patients and family.
  4. Utilizes research to support best practice that is evidence based.
  5. Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency.
  6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Masters Degree as APN 
  • Current license in State of Michigan as APN
  • Two (2) years clinical experience in the population served

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Nursing skills as defined in the laws governing the practice of nursing in Michigan.  
  2. High level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of the complex responses of individuals, families or communities to actual or potential health problems, prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, organizational, analytical and time management skills. 
  4. Able to develop collaborative relationships with physicians, patients, families and other members of the healthcare team.  
  5. Able to manage change and integrate CQI principles for service and organization work improvements.
