McLaren Port Huron - Certified by The Joint Commission for Inpatient Diabetes Care
McLaren Port Huron's diabetes education nurse coordinators and registered dietitian provide group and individual Instruction in:
- Diabetes self-management skills
- Blood sugar monitoring
- Medications
- Complication prevention
- Nutrition management
- Stress management
Our outpatient Diabetes Education Program is an American Diabetes Association recognized program. It includes group and individual education classes for new and returning patients; support groups for adults; partnering with community organizations, such as the YMCA on diabetes and pre-diabetes programs; The Lion’s Club to provide screening and outreach; and working with the Port Huron area schools and school nurses.
Diabetes Education is located on the third floor of the Wismer Health Center at McLaren Port Huron.
Most services are covered by insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid and many other insurance companies. Insurance typically covers live education in a class setting for new and returning patients with diabetes. Deductibles and copays apply, so please contact your insurance company with coverage questions. Your insurance company may require information in order to determine insurance coverage, including ICD-10 codes E11.65 (type 2 diabetes), E10.65 (type 1 diabetes); Billing codes G0108 (individual class), G0109 (group class) and 97802 (Nutrition appointment).
