One Amazing Robotic Surgery Program
One Reason. You, Recovering Faster After Surgery.
Incredibly advanced robotic surgery technology, combined with the exceptional skill of St. Luke’s surgeons means we perform minimally invasive procedures with greater precision and control than was possible ever before.
Robotic surgery procedures involve several small incisions, which often means better outcomes, shorter hospital stays, less pain and fewer complications than with open surgeries that require large incisions.
During robotic surgery, a thin tube, which includes a camera, provides a high-resolution 3D image of the surgical site. Through other tiny incisions, the surgeon inserts surgical instruments attached to robotic arms that can rotate 360 degrees and move in very small increments.
Among the many advantages of robotic surgery, the system allows the surgeon:
- Enhanced views, including areas that may not be seen by the naked eye
-
Increased range of motion
-
Improved access to hard-to-reach areas
-
Greater surgical precision
-
Improved ability to spare healthy tissue
-
Empowered by the da Vinci Xi® Surgical System
The da Vinci Xi® Surgical System provides St. Luke’s surgeons in many disciplines with an excellent alternative to traditional open surgery and laparoscopy. The da Vinci Xi® robot is part of a state-of-the-art robotic platform with built-in safety mechanisms to ensure that the robot only moves under control of the surgeon.
Skilled surgeons are the key
Robotic surgery requires the knowledge and experience of a skilled surgeon who controls every move of the robotic system. The robot cannot be programmed because each patient procedure requires specific, moment-by-moment precision.
McLaren St. Luke’s robotic surgeons complete an extensive training program that includes simulated and supervised surgeries. Plus, our nursing and support teams must master specific robotic skills required to assist.
Thanks to robotic technology, surgery doesn’t have to mean intense pain and long recovery times. In many cases, robotic surgery is the best option for successful procedures and faster recovery with lower risk.
