During the month of November, the home care and hospice community honors the millions of nurses, home care aides, therapists, and social workers who make a remarkable difference for the patients and families they serve.
A former patient, Ronald R. Pawlak, Esq. is also honoring his caregivers for the compassionate care that he received during his lifetime at McLaren Home Care & Hospice, Hiland Cottage. McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation received a bequest from Mr. Pawlak’s estate earlier this summer designated to support patient care for those served by Hiland Cottage.
“I was so glad when my father's caregivers told me the best hospice around was McLaren Northern Michigan,” said Gwyn Besner. “They made him comfortable in his last days and treated him with the utmost kindness and care. They also took care to make sure I understood what was happening every step of the way. I cannot say enough good things about the staff at Hiland Cottage. They are the best.”
Mr. Pawlak, a retired attorney who moved to Harbor Springs after over 50 years in practice, named McLaren Home Care & Hospice as one of four beneficiaries of his retirement plan. Mr. Pawlak also made arrangements to support nursing care initiatives and nursing education at McLaren Northern Michigan.
“We are so grateful to Mr. Pawlak for his generosity, foresight, and support of our mission,” stated Laura Daniel, Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Home Care & Hospice. “This gift was unexpected and will greatly benefit hospice patients and families.”
Hiland Cottage is an inpatient facility that provides care and comfort to patients and their families. The house offers the privacy and security that patients would have in their own homes, in addition to end-of-life symptom management and nursing care. Contributions help to offset the expenses of patients who are not able to afford their care or who are uninsured.
