MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich.—McLaren Macomb, part of the statewide McLaren Stroke Network, has been recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for the proficiency and efficacy in its care of stroke patients. The hospital’s stroke program earned the AHA/ASA’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke GOLD PLUS and Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite achievements for the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of its treatment of patients who have suffered a stroke.

Based on up-to-date, evidence-based treatment guidelines set by the AHA/ASA to improve patient care and outcomes, McLaren Macomb earned GOLD PLUS status by complying with quality measurements and adhering to those guidelines for a period of 12 consecutive months. These guidelines include making a timely diagnosis, administering the appropriate medications and providing stroke patients with discharge instructions to address their stroke risk factors.
Additionally, McLaren Macomb earned the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite recognition for its timeliness in administering IV tPA, a medication to dissolve stroke-causing blood clots.
“This recognition is a testament to the proficiency and expertise of our program, but more so to our commitment to the outcomes of our patients,” said Dr. Aniel Majjhoo, an interventional neurologist and medical director of the McLaren Macomb Neurosciences Institute. “Our staff adhering to established guidelines puts our patients in the position to achieve the best possible clinical outcomes, demonstrating the effectiveness of our practice.”
These achievements represent strides in the program, earning GOLD PLUS in 2019 following 2018’s SILVER PLUS.
Part of the McLaren Stroke Network, McLaren Macomb has routinely earned national recognition for its care, treatment, quality and outcomes. It is the only program in Macomb County capable of performing interventional thrombectomy procedures, the standard of care set by the AHA/ASA’s guidelines.
