Caro’s newest family medicine doctor may look familiar

Dr. Jessica Gibson, DO, who will begin seeing patients at McLaren Caro Region - Hill Medical Center on September 1, 2020, graduated from Caro High School.

“I have a passion for my hometown and I know they’ve been lacking enough physicians for quite some time,” Dr. Gibson says.

When the opportunity to practice medicine in Caro came up, Dr. Gibson didn’t hesitate. She is thrilled to raise her family in her hometown.

“When I went to medical school, I didn’t anticipate being able to come back to Caro, but the stars aligned to make it happen,” Dr. Gibson says. “I like being back in the community that nurtured me.”

Dr. Gibson graduated from Wayne State University after earning a bachelor’s degree with a double major in biology and nutrition. She earned her medical degree from the Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tennessee.

While at Lincoln, she completed a teaching fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. She also earned a master’s degree in anatomical sciences. Most recently, she completed her three-year Family Medicine Residency at McLaren Bay Region.

Dr. Gibson is Board Certified in Family Medicine and joins Heather Fryers, FNP-BC, at Hill Medical Center, 465 N. Hooper St. in Caro.

Dr. Gibson loves that family medicine allows her to work with patients of all ages, but she is especially drawn to women’s health issues and favors osteopathic manipulation for treatment of musculoskeletal complaints.

The cornerstone of family medicine is developing ongoing patient-physician relationships to provide integrated care for people of all ages and genders. Family medicine doctors advocate for patients as they navigate complex medical systems.

“I really enjoy getting to know my patients and spending time with them,” she says.
