Radiation Oncologist Joins McLaren Proton Therapy Center Team of Experts

The McLaren Proton Therapy Center welcomes Christian Hyde, MD, DABR to the team of radiation oncologists. Dr. Hyde is a board-certified radiation oncologist with specialized training in proton therapy. He joins a comprehensive team of oncologists at McLaren Flint that work closely to give patients their best chance in fighting their disease.

“I’m glad to join the team at the McLaren Proton Therapy Center and Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Flint,” says Dr. Hyde. “There are other proton centers across the country, but McLaren offers the highest energy proton therapy treatments. It’s also the largest proton facility in Michigan.  I’m excited to offer my patients this innovative treatment that hits the tumor accurately and helps spare healthy tissues from unnecessary radiation.”

Only a small percentage of radiation specialists have completed a fellowship training program in proton therapy. Dr. Hyde subspecialized in proton therapy and related studies at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He has concentrated his practice on promising new technologies, like proton therapy, to offer his cancer patients the most current treatment options available.

“We’re excited to have Dr. Hyde join the team at the proton center,” says Hesham Gayar, MD, Medical Director of the McLaren Proton Therapy Center. “With his skills and special training, he compliments our professional team to serve the higher demand for precision proton therapy.”

Dr. Hyde earned his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine, where he also completed his four-year residency in radiation oncology. He practiced at Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Network in Utah and helped launch a brand-new cancer-only hospital in Georgia. Read Dr. Hyde’s full bio here.
