Clinical Instructors
Welcome to McLaren St. Luke’s. As a Clinical Instructor, you are an important part of McLaren St. Luke’s educational experience. You will find the steps needed to support you in your instructional role listed below.
New Nursing Instructor
- Set up orientation with the Clinical Coordinators at McLaren St. Luke’s. Contact your college or university for training dates.
- Complete and submit the documents below to your college/institution (at least three weeks prior to your orientation day):
- Required health documents
- Valid CPR card (AHA or ARC only)
- Proof of completed COVID-19 Vaccine
- Proof of flu shot (seasonal)
- Read and sign IT Access Form
- Review the Clinical and Non-Clinical Orientation Module.
- Print and sign Clinical & Non-Clinical Attestation Form.
- Print and complete MedSelect User Form to receive access to medication administration.
- Once Steps 1 – 5 are complete, return the Clinical & Non-Clinical Attestation Form and MedSelect User Form, when you attend the new instructor orientation.
- During your instructor orientation, you will visit the Human Resources department to have your picture taken for your badge so it can be picked up on your first clinical day. This can be done up to two (2) weeks prior to your start date, or a minimum of seven (7) days before your start date.
- Contact your school/institution's Clinical Coordinator regarding the current masking and shield protocol.
Returning Nursing Instructor
- Complete and submit the following documents to your college/institution (at least three weeks prior to your First clinical day):
- Required health documents
- Valid CPR card (AHA or ARC only)
- Proof of completed COVID-19 Vaccine
- Proof of flu shot (seasonal)
- Read and sign IT Access Form
- Review the Clinical and Non-Clinical Orientation Module (annually)
- Print and sign Clinical & Non-Clinical Attestation Form (annually)
- Once Steps 1 - 3 are complete, return the Clinical & Non-Clinical Attestation Form to the McLaren St. Luke's Clinical Coordinator, on or before your first day of clinical.

Glucose Meter Training (Nursing Only)
Prior to using the glucose meters at McLaren St. Luke’s, you will need to complete the educational Glucose Meter Training Module and take the written test, passing with a ≥ 80% score.
During your unit orientation, run both high and low controls using your McLaren St. Luke’s ID badge and dock the meter to complete your activation in the system.
For students, use the Student Training Glucose Log. You must write a Yes or No, on each student line, noting whether controls were ran. A single line down the column will not be acceptable.

For all Other Clinical Students (pharmacy, radiology, etc.), please contact your department-specific coordinator with any questions or concerns.
Additional Instructor and College/Institution Clinical Coordinator Duties for Students
- Verify that students have completed and submitted the following to the school/institution clinical coordinator:
- Required health documents
- Valid CPR card (AHA or ARC only)
- Proof of completed COVID-19 Vaccine
- Proof of flu shot (seasonal)
- Read and signed IT Access Form (not applicable to EMS)
- Verify that the college has sent the Health Requirements and IT Access forms at least two weeks prior to the start of your clinical orientation. These forms must be sent together (PDF format preferred) – at the same time – not separately or by the student's Nursing Coordinator. Email to: studentintake@stlukeshospital.com. Other Clinical Coordinators, send to your department-specific contact.
- Verify that the students have reviewed the Clinical and Non-Clinical Orientation Module. Have the clinical group read, complete and sign the Clinical & Non-Clinical Attestation form. Nursing Instructors/Coordinators, submit signed forms to the McLaren St. Luke’s Clinical Coordinator at the end of the clinical orientation day. Other Clinical Coordinators, give to your department-specific contact. Please do not have students email or send the form individually.
- Complete the Student Glucose Training with your students and fill in the Glucose Log. Turn the log and graded student tests in, to the McLaren St. Luke’s Clinical Coordinators, at the end of the clinical orientation day.
Note: If all student forms have not been received by the McLaren Clinical Coordinator by the above stated times, the student will not be able to start their clinical experience at the hospital.
