Joint Express™

Joint Express™ at McLaren Lapeer Region is an innovative program for patients who need total joint replacement of the hip or knee.
  • Total knee replacement is a surgical procedure to remove a worn or damaged knee joint and replace it with an artificial one. Cartilage wears away from the knee due to inflammation, trauma and usage. The worn cartilage no longer allows the joint to glide freely, causing stiffness and pain.
  • Total hip replacement is a surgical procedure to remove a worn or damaged hip joint and replace it with an artificial one. Surgery is usually done when the smooth, soft tissue that covers the ball of the thigh bone and lines the socket cartilage cracks or wears away. Damage to the cartilage is caused by normal wear (osteoarthritis), inflammation, rheumatoid arthritis, or an injury (bad fall causing a fracture).
Joint Express™ nurses and therapists are experts in the care of joint replacement patients. They focus on wellness and physical rehabilitation to help patients return to their normal activities as soon as possible.

The program begins before surgery with comprehensive group instruction on pre-operative care, hospital care and care at home. Family and friends are encouraged to participate in the recovery process.
