Published on Thursday, June 23, 2016

people stretching legsAs we age, balance can start to deteriorate and cause lifestyle changes. People with diabetes can experience balance issues due to low blood sugar or nerve damage.

On Monday, July 11  from 7 – 8 p.m., join Terry Whitmore, Exercise Specialist at McLaren Northern Michigan, who will discuss the mechanics of balance at the Diabetes Support Group.

"Balance is not only crucial for the prevention of injury caused by falls, but integral in maintaining quality of life by allowing us to do the activities that we want," stated Whitmore.  “We will provide tips and exercises that you can perform at home to improve and maintain balance.”

The class is free, and any community member interested in balance exercises and education is welcome to attend.

For diabetes support and education all year, the McLaren Northern Michigan Diabetes Support Group meets the second Monday of each month from 7 - 8 p.m. at the John and Marnie Demmer Wellness Pavilion and Dialysis Center, on 820 Arlington Avenue in Petoskey.
