Some presentations contain free continuing education unit (CEU) opportunities for certified coders; a coding certification is not required to attend. Pain Management Continuing Education Opportunity

Meet pain and symptom management continuing education requirements

The Michigan Center for Clinical Systems Improvement in cooperation with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Priority Health is offering training sessions to meet license renewal requirements.

Training Dates

Friday, October 12; 8:00 – 4:30 pm

Saturday, October 13; 7:30 – 3:30 pm
Holiday Inn-Harbor, 939 Third Street, Muskegon, MI 49440

Intended Audience

Primary care practice teams or individual providers, clinical and non-clinical staff (Providers, care managers, social workers, medical assistants, office managers other practice staff, pharmacists, and behavioral health specialists).


The faculty is drawn from the University of Michigan and community pain management providers, addiction specialists and therapists.

Lecture & Case Studies

The morning sessions will include lecture and case studies on pain management mechanisms, pathophysiology, biopsychosocial aspects of pain, pharmacotherapy and non-pharmacy treatment approaches.

Practical Applications & Workshops

The afternoon sessions will include practical applications and approaches for medication tapering; conducting difficult conversations with patients; comprehensive assessment of biopsychosocial aspects of pain; basics of addiction and working with specialty providers; using the new automated prescription system (MAPS)

Continuing Education Credits Available

AOA (Muskegon Only):

Mercy Health Muskegon is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education to physicians. Approval is currently pending.


This live activity, Basics of pain and pain management, with a beginning date of 02/15/2018, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 6.25 Elective credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Physicians & nurses should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Note: Nurses can use CME credits toward re-license.

Social Workers:

This course is approved by the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative. Course Approval Numbers: 110717-00 & 010518-00. The course is approved for a maximum of 6 contact hours.
