Published on Wednesday, August 08, 2018

McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation honored Susanna “Susie” Souder with the Jack Clark Philanthropy and Service Award at the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation annual donor appreciation event on July 16, 2018. The award was presented by Elise F. Hayes, Chair of the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation Board.

“Susie has been one of the strongest advocates for the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation,” said Patrick Schulte, McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation Vice President and Chief Development Officer. “She has devoted her time, expertise, and wisdom to ensure that world-class health care is available right here in northern Michigan.”

Recipients of the Jack Clark Philanthropy and Service Award are nominated by a McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation Board ad-hoc committee. They are dedicated leaders and philanthropists who provide the Foundation with direction and serve as its advocates throughout our northern Michigan communities.

“Past recipients of this award have been truly remarkable individuals,” said Souder. “I am honored to be considered among them as the recipient of this year’s Jack Clark Award.”

Souder served on the Burns Clinic Foundation Board of Trustees from 1992 – 1993 at which time they merged with what is now the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation. She continued her service as a trustee and remained on the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation Board from 1993 – 2004 when she passed the baton to her daughter-in-law to continue the tradition of leadership. Souder continues to serve the Foundation on the Advisory Council.

“Susie has supported the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation financially, morally and has been an ambassador in our resort community since the early 1980s,” said Elise F. Hayes, Chair of the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation Board. “The Foundation and the Hospital are strong community assets thanks to leaders like her.”

Past recipients include Thomas Fairbairn, Sr., Lawrence Buhl, Jr., Miles Trumble, MD, Walter Fisher, John Demmer, The Offield Family Foundation—Jim and Packy Offield, Elise F. Hayes, Ann P. Stallkamp, and Robert “Ham” Schirmer.
