Spring Savvy Seniors Series focuses on being ready for summer

Published on Tuesday, March 20, 2018
Port Huron, MI – McLaren Port Huron will present a spring session of the popular Savvy Seniors Series, an educational series focused on enhancing the quality of life for seniors in any stage of life. This free series begins in April and continues through June. The theme is Summer Readiness for Seniors.

Skin protection is important at every age. However, seniors can be particularly vulnerable during the hottest months of the year. Join Michael Render, PA-C, of Forefront Dermatology, for a lunch and learn program to learn steps you can use to protect your skin from damage and ward off the dangers summer can bring.  Lunch will be provided. Getting Your Skin Ready for Summer takes place Thursday, April 19, 11:30 a.m., in the McLaren Port Huron Duffy Classrooms.

The second session, Summer Safety Tips, features McLaren Port Huron’s Trauma Manager, Caren Kosal. Summer is a time of fun and relaxation, but the heat and sun can be dangerous for seniors if the proper precautions aren’t taken. Kosal will discuss how to have a fun and safe summer. This program takes place Tuesday, May 22, 10 am., in the 55 Plus Classroom, McLaren Port Huron Jefferson Building. The Jefferson Building is located at 1320 Washington Avenue.

In the final session, you’ll learn about the joys and benefits that come with gardening. Join Laurie Dennis, Advanced Master Gardener of St. Clair County, to learn tips to create a beautiful butterfly garden that will be good for both you and the butterflies. A Beautiful Butterfly Garden takes place Thursday, June 7, 1 p.m., at Marwood Nursing & Rehab, 1300 Beard Street, Port Huron.

Each program in the series is free, but registration is required. To register or for more information, visit mclaren.org/phevents or call HealthAccess at 1-800-228-1484.
