Though cervical cancer can be detected early by routine screenings and is preventable with the HPV vaccine, physicians diagnose some later stages of the disease. John Wallbillich, M.D., gynecologic oncologist and member of the Gynecologic Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos, said this could be due to access. He explains cervical cancer screenings, the HPV vaccine, how immunotherapy works, and how Karmanos is at the forefront of research and treatment. On Sunday Edition, he explains how Karmanos was involved in the clinical trials of the recently FDA-approved treatment therapy of KEYTRUDA (pembrolizumab) in combination with chemoradiotherapy for patients with FIGO 2014 stage III-IVA cervical cancer.
