THE HEALING PROCESS

Reach out for help: It is important for those who experience trauma to know they are not alone. Professional help is available. Call (810) 667-5714 for a physician referral.

Don’t isolate yourself: It is important to maintain relationships. You don’t have to talk about the trauma you experienced if you are not ready. Simply be with those who love and support you.

Consider joining a support group: Connecting with others who are experiencing the same feelings as you can help reduce your sense of isolation and provide you with healthy ways to cope.

Regulate your nervous system: Focus on mindful breathing and surrounding yourself with soft, calming, and warm elements.

HELPING A LOVED ONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED TRAUMA

Know that healing takes time: Be patient and understanding. Don’t judge your loved one’s reaction to their traumatic experience.

Be available: Don’t force your loved one to open up. Instead, let them know that they can share what they are feeling when they are ready.

If you are thinking about suicide or are worried about a loved one, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or visit your nearest emergency department.
